A workflow in Drupal is a set of states and transitions that defines how content moves through an editorial process. Workflows are defined through the Workflows core module and used by Content Moderation.
Create a workflow with states like Draft, In Review, Published, and Archived. Define which transitions are allowed, such as from Draft to In Review. Assign permissions for who can perform each transition, letting you control which roles can advance content through the process.
Multiple workflows can exist on a single site, so news articles might follow a different workflow than press releases. This flexibility makes Drupal suitable for complex editorial environments where different content types need different review processes. Workflows are one of the features that distinguishes Drupal from simpler CMS platforms and justifies choosing it for publishing heavy sites.
