Should I use Cloudflare with Drupal?

Cloudflare works well with Drupal and is a popular choice for sites of all sizes. The free tier provides CDN, basic DDoS protection, and SSL, which is more than enough for smaller sites.

Paid tiers add features like image optimisation, advanced caching rules, and enhanced security features like Web Application Firewall rules tuned for CMS attacks.

For full page caching, Cloudflare needs to know when to invalidate pages. Use the Cloudflare contrib module, which integrates with Drupal’s Purge framework to clear Cloudflare cache when content changes. Without proper invalidation, editors will see stale content and get frustrated. Cloudflare can also protect against bots, brute force attacks, and other common threats. For most Drupal sites, Cloudflare is a clear win. Starting with the free tier and upgrading only if you need specific features is a reasonable approach.
